LocalScoop ("we," "us") operates a local discovery website and app. This page explains what information we collect, why, and what choices you have. We don't sell your personal information.

Information we collect

If you just browse: your approximate location (only if you allow it, used to show nearby results), your search terms, and items you save — saved items are stored only in your browser unless you create an account.

If you create an account: your email address and password (handled by our authentication provider, Supabase — we never see your raw password), and your saved favorites, now stored against your account so they sync across devices.

If you list a business, event, or deal: the business/contact details you submit, including your email address, which we use only to reach you about that listing — it's never shown publicly.

How we use it

To show you relevant local results based on your location and search
To let your saved favorites sync across devices if you have an account
To send a daily email if you've saved something relevant happening that day — you can unsubscribe from this at any time, with a one-click link included in every email
To review and approve business/event/deal submissions before they go live publicly
To improve search relevance over time, using anonymized search term logs

Third parties we use

We rely on a small number of service providers to run LocalScoop. Each only receives the information necessary to do its job:

Supabase — our database and account/authentication provider
Ticketmaster — we query their public API for live local event listings; we don't send them your personal information
Anthropic (Claude) — when you use free-text search, your search phrase is sent to Claude's API to help understand what you're looking for; we don't send your name, email, or account details along with it
Resend — sends the daily digest email, if you've opted in by creating an account and saving something
Vercel — hosts the website itself

We don't sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertisers or data brokers.

Cookies and local storage

We use your browser's local storage (not third-party tracking cookies) to remember saved items if you're browsing as a guest, and to keep you signed in if you have an account. We don't use advertising trackers.

Your choices

You can browse and save things without ever creating an account
You can delete saved items at any time
You can unsubscribe from digest emails with one click, from any email we send
You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time

Children's privacy

LocalScoop is intended for use by adults, including parents looking for family activities. We don't knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.

No liability for damages

LocalScoop is a free service and does not charge users or generate revenue from them. We are not liable for any damages — direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential — arising from your use of this site or reliance on any information found here, including information related to your personal data, account, or any business or listing you interact with through the service. You are responsible for your own decisions and actions taken as a result of using this site.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes meaningfully, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
